In late 2005, one of our board members approached local company, Tranquility Canoes, with a request: would they give a beautiful canoe to the Spring Green Literary Festival to raffle?
Understand, their cedar strip canoes are works of art. Each takes 3 months to produce, their waiting list for new canoes is several years long, and their beginning price is over $4,000. The owners of Tranquility Canoes gracefully consented to give the Spring Green Literary Festival board of directors one of their Serenity canoes, and the Spring Green LitFest was off to the races. Literally. Between April and October 2006, members of the Spring Green Literary Festival board of directors sold over $5,000 worth of tickets, through rain, heat, and cold. On October 22, 2006, the canoe, Serenity #42, was awarded to a happy ticket holder from Janesville, Wisconsin.
